CLDP Hosts MENA Regional Conference on Best Practices and Good Governance in Public Procurement

CLDP organized a regional conference on Best Practices and Good Governance in Public Procurement in Casablanca, Morocco in May 2013. CLDP worked with key government-procurement officials from Algeria, Libya, Morocco,and Tunisia to assist in the development of regulations and practices that contribute to transparent and efficient government-procurement systems.

CLDP Celebrates 20 years!

Begun as a small joint venture between USAID and Commerce to help the Former Soviet Bloc countries of Eastern Europe transition to more market-oriented economies, CLDP has expanded to help meet the legal technical assistance needs of more than 50 countries in Eurasia, Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. On February 23rd, CLDP celebrated 20 years of technical assistance in commercial law.

Senior Counsel Marianne Guerin-McManus attended the North Africa Partnership for Economic Opportunity (NAPEO) conference in Marrakech, January 16-18, 2012. The goal of the conference was to bolster public-private partnerships and enhance the network of entrepreneurs and business leaders in the United States and the Maghreb (Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Libya and Mauritania).

Customs Workshop on Rule of Origian under the US-Morocco Free Trade Agreement

CLDP, jointly with two experts from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, led a two day workshop in Rabat on Rules of Origin September 28-29, 2010, ensuring that the benefits of preferential tariff treatment under the agreement apply to Moroccan and U.S. goods eligible for such treatment.

Trade Remedies Workshop in Morocco

For the last three years, CLDP has been providing technical assistance to the Government of Morocco (GOM), within the framework of the US-Morocco Free Trade Agreement. This latest program of technical assistance specifically focusing on trade remedies, including anti-dumping, took place in Rabat in January 2010 and was the result of a close cooperation with the Department of Commerce's Import Administration (DOC-IA) as well as the International Trade Commission (ITC) and the United States Trade Representative (USTR). ITC Commissioner Irving Williamson, David B. Fishberg, Staff Attorney, and George L. Deyman Director, Office of Investigations (Division A), from the ITC as well as John McInerney Chief Counsel for Import Administration (IA) and Abdelali Elouaradia, Office Director for China/NME with IA, all travelled to Rabat to share their expertise on trade remedies.
