Advisors
CLDP welcomes the expression of interest from experts willing to volunteer their time to advise on and participate in CLDP programs. CLDP works with experts from various disciplines including those from other U.S. federal agencies, multilateral organizations, and members of academia. Although CLDP provides reimbursement of travel and per diem expenses related to our programs, we have a very limited budget to cover the costs of consulting fees.
If you are interested in serving as an advisor for CLDP, please submit an email to cldp@doc.gov detailing your area of expertise. At times, paid advisor opportunities may also be advertised on the Federal Business Opportunities web site. These can be found by visiting the site and typing "CLDP" within the search box.
Internships
If you are looking for a legal internship that will allow you to work in an international legal environment and handle a variety of legal issues, then CLDP may be just the place for you. CLDP welcomes legal interns to work alongside our international teams to do research and analysis and write legal reports that identify the current opportunities for CLDP to effect international legal reform and document the activities of the CLDP teams around the globe.
Our legal interns work with the respective regional teams that currently focus on improving the commercial legal environments in Europe and Eurasia, Northern Africa, and the Middle East. In order to be an intern with CLDP, you must be a self-motivated individual with strong writing skills. Proficiency in the language of a country in which CLDP presently works is a definite plus. If you are interested working with CLDP in this capacity, please send via e-mail a resume with a cover letter outlining your area(s) of interest to CLDP@doc.gov. Please be sure to write INTERNSHIP in the subject line.
Career positions
When positions with CLDP become available, they are advertised and posted on the USA Jobs web site. These can be viewed by visiting the site and typing "CLDP" within the search box. In order to apply, an applicant must log into the site and follow the specific instructions outlined there to apply for the actual position.
Both recent law school graduates and experienced attorneys may apply for our attorney positions when they become available. In order to be eligible, an applicant must provide proof of U.S. citizenship and active bar membership (in any U.S. jurisdiction) in addition to meeting the requirements of the specific position. Proficiency in a foreign language that is pertinent to the mission of the particular team gives a strong advantage, as well as having hands-on experience in the particular country or region that the position will handle.
There are also several non-attorney positions that work alongside and support the attorney positions in CLDP. Our International Program Specialists assist the senior counsels and attorney-advisors with the development of implementation plans for technical assistance events. This includes identifying and incorporating key strategic, substantive, and procedural considerations into the design and execution of programs and events, researching specific assistance topics, and recruiting, selecting and preparing expert advisors and trainers. Our administrative staff supports our teams by identifying and implementing the logistical aspects of each CLDP program. This includes coordinating the travel and event logistics necessary to the success of each program.
