Puerto Rico Consultations on Microgrid Regulation

May 1, 2019 - May 4, 2019

On May 1-4, 2019, CLDP will organize consultations on microgrid regulation in San Juan, Puerto Rico, for a delegation of Honduran and Guatemalan participants. Representatives from the Honduran and Guatemalan regulators, utilities, ministries of energy, and other stakeholders will travel to Puerto Rico to learn about the territory's experience in reforming its energy regulation in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in an effort to improve the resiliency of the island's electricity supply, largely by encouraging the development of microgrids. Honduran and Guatemalan participants will take the Puerto Rican experience into account as they contemplate changes to their own microgrid regulations. These consultations represent part of CLDP's ongoing two-year project to assist the governments of Honduras and Guatemala in developing the legal and regulatory framework to allow microgrids to flourish, thereby increasing rural electrification and contributing to economic development.
