El Salvador: Textiles Workshop on Building Effective Marketing Strategies

On October 14-15, 2019, in coordination with the office of the U.S. Trade Representative (CLDP) will conduct a workshop on building effective marketing strategies for up to 100 representatives of the Salvadoran textile industry.

With textiles and apparel representing 46% of total Salvadoran exports, the apparel sector is the leading manufacturing employer in El Salvador, and the primary employer of women. Despite trade preferences, benefits under the CAFTA-DR, and recent advances in product innovation, Central American textile and apparel producers have struggled to compete against low-wage Asian countries. Nevertheless, El Salvador has steadily increased its textile and apparel exports since 2009, as the industry shifts to embrace innovative changes. Strengthening the capabilities and efficiencies of the Salvadoran textile and apparel industry will enhance export opportunities along the full US – CAFTA-DR supply chain.

Through this capacity-building program, CLDP and USTR seek to improve regional prosperity by fostering human and institutional capacity to support and strengthen the textile and apparel industry. The program focuses on four areas: innovation in operations and production processes; strengthening supply-chain management; building effective marketing strategies and practices; and strengthening utilization of the CAFTA-DR agreement. Through technical workshops and stakeholder exchanges, the program engages the private sector, academia, and relevant government agencies to create shared knowledge, and provide self-sustaining support to build the skill sets to cultivate the human capacity and business opportunities that increase economic competitiveness.
