From August 7 – September 29, 2017, CLDP will sponsor one fellowship recipient from the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) staff to spend two months working as an integral member of the Bureau of Consumer Protection team at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

September 4, 2017 - September 7, 2017

On September 4-6, 2017, CLDP, in partnership with the Republic of Moldova’s Public Procurement Agency and the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, hosted a Workshop on Transparent and Efficient Procurement in Chisinau, Moldova. The workshop aimed to help Moldova implement best international practices in a number of key areas identified in previous CLDP programs.

September 10, 2017 - September 11, 2017

On September 10-11, CLDP will conduct 2 one-day seminars at the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA) in Riyadh.

September 11, 2017 - September 15, 2017

On September 11-15, CLDP, USPTO, and WIPO, in close coordination with the National Intellectual Property Office of Sri Lanka and the University Grants Commission, will conduct university IP development programs in Colombo, Sri Lanka. A select group of Sri Lankan universities that attended the April workshop has been chosen to participate in a two-day working group session which will consider the key policy topics in discussion modules, with policy drafting exercises throughout both days.

September 12, 2017 - September 13, 2017

On September 12-13, CLDP, in cooperation with Kosovo Customs, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Embassy Pristina will conduct a workshop on Single Window and Cross Border Management in Pristina, Kosovo. At CLDP's last workshop in June, Kosovo Customs requested assistance on how to create a single-window customs management system similar to the US’s ACE Program, as well as on how to improve cooperation between customs and relevant government trade agencies.

On September 12 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia CLDP conducted a roundtable with the American Business Group of Riyadh (ABGR) legal representatives on the status of commercial law development in Saudi Arabia and the region.  ABGR lawyers represented large law firms such as Jones Day, solo practitioners such as Christopher Johnson, and in-house counsels at large companies such as General Electric.  ABGR lawyers were pleased to hear the current CLDP emphasis on contract enforcement, complex commercial transaction litigation, and government procurement.  Those who have been working in S

September 13, 2017

On September 13, 2017, CLDP, in cooperation with the Kuwait Commercial Arbitration Center (KCAC), hosted a half-day workshop on best practices in alternative dispute resolution clause drafting. The workshop focused on a case study that was used to identify and build consensus on best practices in alternative dispute resolution clauses to be used in contracts between Kuwaiti and international parties. Program participants wrote draft clauses as part of a group exercise led by an alternative dispute resolution legal expert.

September 14, 2017 - September 19, 2017

CLDP, in collaboration with several government agencies as well as U.S.-based standards setting organizations, will host the fifth meeting of Central Asia-Afghanistan Expert Level Working Group, for government officials with responsibility for setting and enforcing standards from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The meeting will take place over four days, September 14, 15, 18, and 19, in Washington D.C.

September 18, 2017 - September 26, 2017

CLDP will lead franchising workshops in Algeria and Tunisia from September 18-26, 2017. It will organize introductory workshops on the concept of franchising, led by international franchising experts, in Algeria from September 18-20. CLDP will also lead an introductory workshop on franchising on September 25, and a meeting of the Franchise Business Club on September 26, in Tunis. Both Tunis workshops are being co-organized with AC Franchise. CLDP's franchise programming in Algeria and Tunisia is part of an effort to promote entrepreneurship and economic development, funded by the U.S.

September 20, 2017 - September 21, 2017

From September 20-21, in coordination with the Centers for Judicial and Prosecutorial Training of the Republika Srpska (RS) and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), CLDP will conduct a workshop on international sales contract enforcement in Teslić, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Participants will include approximately 40 judges from both the RS and the FBiH (the two government entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina).

September 20, 2017 - September 21, 2017

In 2016, Sri Lanka adopted new requirements for private sector initiated proposals for public-private partnerships. Sri Lanka’s Public Utility is looking to adopt its procurement rules to reconcile the new requirements. CLDP in continuing its assistance in the energy sector in Sri Lanka will conduct a workshop focused on the different policy choices and how to implement them. This is part of a multi-phase assistance project to South Asia on regional energy concerns.

September 23, 2017 - September 26, 2017

CLDP will co-organize two workshops on intellectual property in Batumi, Georgia from September 23-26, 2017. CLDP will hold a Media Workshop on Civil Intellectual Property (IP) Infringement Disputes for 20 journalists from national and local television and radio outlets. The program will aim to build the capacity of journalists to understand and cover IP issues, thereby raising awareness and improving understanding among the general public, as well as to respect IP rights in programming and protect IP in its own programs.

September 26, 2017 - September 28, 2017

Based on the recommendations of the recent CLDP Trade Facilitation Agreement workshops, CLDP, in coordination with EUBAM, will provide support for a study tour for five officials of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine to the Finnish Customs to review the legal framework and practical functioning of the effective post clearance audit system. The SFS Study Tour to Finland will take place on September 26-28 in helsinki, Finland.

September 27, 2017 - September 28, 2017

CLDP in cooperation with USTR, USDA and Ukraine Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) will host Workshop on Good Regulatory Practice Reform. The Workshop will take place in Kyiv, Ukraine on September 27-28. During the workshop participants will, based on a factual understanding of Ukraine’s current regulatory practices, consider practical actions which can improve Ukraine’s trade attractiveness.
