On April 21, CLDP, along with speakers from the International Trade Administration and the Federal Trade Commission, organized a virtual teleconference with government and non-government officials in Bangladesh, including a member of Parliament. The discussion centered on efforts by the Bangladeshi government to develop rules on privacy and data governance, including a requirement that consumer data be stored within Bangladesh, which is likely to discourage firms from doing business there. As a result of the discussion, the Bangladeshi officials agreed to share documents with the U.S. participants for review and to meet further. The program was organized through State Department funding for the Digital Connectivity and Cybersecurity Partnership and in coordination with the U.S. Embassy in Bangladesh.
