Commercial Law Capacity Building for Parliamentarians – Part II

On March 20 in Manama, Bahrain, CLDP in conjunction with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC) conducted the second Consultation Session for Bahraini Parliamentarians and Shura Council officials, as well as members of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI) and representatives of the private sector. The US Deputy Chief of Mission, Tim Pounds and the MOIC Under Secretary, Nader El-Moyyead, gave welcoming remarks where they both voiced the need to ensure Bahrain remains a hub of finance and entrepreneurship in the region.

The goal of the sessions was to raise awareness as to the benefits of modernizing Bahrain’s commercial laws, in particular its Company Law, Insolvency Law and Corporate Governance Code. CLDP experts, MOIC officials, as well as a renowned Bahraini lawyer and a former Bahraini banker spoke on substantive aspects of the laws, focusing on international commercial law standard and recent domestic and global legal developments. The workshop produced a lively discussion among the participants as to the importance of moving forward with modernization of commercial laws in Bahrain and the need to promote continued economic growth in the country.
