Consultations on Consumer Protection Law and Policy

-
In an effort to learn from the experience of other countries, Egyptian Consumer Protection Agency (ECPA) officials requested that CLDP organize and lead consultations in New York, San Diego and Mexico City. Through these consultations, ECPA officials enhanced their understanding of the policies, regulations, and procedures relating to consumer protection in the U.S. and Mexico, especially at the state and local levels. ECPA officials also gained valuable insight into the coordination of public and private sector efforts to promote consumer protection. ECPA is especially interested in receiving an overview of relevant competition entities; consumer protection laws; consumer outreach and education; comparative market studies; method for handling complaints; market surveillance and products recall procedures; means of ensuring sustainable consumption; and the role of consumer protection NGOs. In support of the ECPA's mandate, CLDP organized a two-week consultative visit to the US and Mexico for sixteen (16) Egyptian officials to meet with their U.S. and Mexican counterparts to discuss, inter alia, policies, regulations, procedures and practices relating to the consumer protection law framework and public/private sector coordination for protecting consumer rights.
